Samsung UN55B7000 vs Samsung UN55B8000 – Which Should You Buy?

2010 February 5

As two of Samsung’s best HDTVs, the Samsung UN55B7000 55-Inch LED HDTV and the Samsung UN55B8000 share many similarities. They are both edge-lit LED-based, energy-well-organized and capable of delivering spectacular images. So which one of them should you get?

Let’s take a look at the key differences of both models. For one, you can be able to tell them apart by just a glance, since the UN55B7000 has a evident amber border on its panel, while the only touch of color on the UN55B8000 is its blue power indicator, which can even be turned off. Both are among Samsung’s thinnest HDTVs, measuring a most of 1.2 inches deep, although the UN55B7000 is a few inches taller. Both also come with matching swivelling stands – charcoal grey for the UN55B8000 and red for the UN55B7000.

The remote hegemony of the UN55B8000 is also more well ahead, with an RF capability that allows it to work on the TV even from a further room, although the clicker that comes with the UN55B7000 is more user-friendly, with the non-open scroll wheel replaced with backlit buttons that are simple to locate and differentiate from each other. It is also more stable on flat surfaces because of a slight modification in its design, though the secondary remote that comes with each is just so alike.

In terms of picture quality, both models give up, with only slight differences that are trying to discern, namely the higher draw a distinction ratio of the UN55B8000 – 5,000,000:1 compared to the UN55B7000’s 3,000,000:1, which consequences in deeper blacks and brighter whites, and its more well ahead Wide Color Enhancer, which maximizes each pixel for colors that truly pop out of the screen.

Last but not least, the UN55B8000 has twice the refresh rate of the UN55B7000 – 240Hz, which allows smoother frame transition during quick-motion sequences. Still, you won’t see any blurring on either set, even with the dejudder processing turned off.

Other than these differences, the Samsung UN55B7000 and UN55B8000 are pretty much the same. In terms of interactive facial advent, both have the same basic Yahoo widgets for news, weather and finance, that you can place on your screen, as well as a built-in library of online content such as recipes, activities for children and exercises routines. If you have other computers at home, you can arrangement them and access their media files using either HDTV, too, since both have enhanced DLNA capability.

Both models are highly energy well-organized, mainly because they are edge-lit LED-based LCD televisions, which means they consume nearly half less than square LCDs and even less than other types of HDTVs. In addition to that, you get three power-saving modes that cut down energy consumption even further. As for connectivity, there aren’t too many analog relations but there are four HDMI inputs provided – enough for your digital devices – as well as a VGA input for your computer and two USB ports that make it simpler to share files directly from your thumb drive, MP3 player or digital camera.

Clearly, the Samsung UN55B7000 is not as excellent as the more expensive UN55B8000, mainly in terms of the images produced, but it certainly comes pretty close and with a few hundred bucks less, is certainly worth considering over the UN55B8000. No matter which you get, though, you’re sure to get an exceptional viewing run into you won’t regret.
